GC/MS Chemist

Job Description

Analysis of samples (water, soil, hazardous waste, food products) for semivolatile compounds (PAHs, pesticides, phthalates, etc.) following EPA, FDA and other analytical methods using single quads, ion traps and triple quads GC/MS. Maintenance of lab instrumentation and record-keeping of analyses documentation. Methods development and validation. Follow strict QA/QC requirements and policies.

Duties

  • Perform analysis of extracts of environmental and other sample matrices (water, soil, solids, tissue) for semi-volatile organics and pesticides by GC/MS following detailed procedures described in the Company's Standard Operating Procedures and analytical methods.
  • Review chromatographic and QA/QC data ensuring it meets established criteria and upload final results into the LIMS.
  • Maintain laboratory documentation related to analysis and training.
  • Ability to communicate with other chemists, project managers, QA Officer and other personnel.
  • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments according to manufacturers’ specifications.

Skills and Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Chemistry or related field.
  • Good communication skills.
  • 1-3 years experience with GC/MS instruments and chromatographic software in the environmental or food testing industries.
  • Strong organizational skills and able to work under time constrains.
